Exchanging apartment

You can apply to exchange apartments with another tenant. We have some conditions that must be met for you to exchange apartments:

  • You and any cohabiting person must have lived in the apartment for at least three years.

  • Both you and the person you're swapping with must register your addresses with the National Registry at the new addresses.

  • The number of people in the household must not exceed the number of habitable rooms in the apartment.

  • The exchange cannot take place until both you and the person you're swapping with have signed the new lease, paid the deposit, etc., for your new apartments.

  • DEAS must receive the application at least 1½ months before you wish to exchange apartments.

The exchange is considered a regular move-out. Therefore, entry and exit inspections must be conducted, and your apartment must be returned in the condition described in your lease agreement.

The exchange parties may not necessarily take over the apartments on the same terms. The landlord may choose to have the apartments renovated. This means that the apartment will be vacant for about three months. With renovation, the rent is increased to reflect the improved condition of the apartment.

If you wish to exchange apartments with another tenant, you and the tenant you want to exchange with must complete and sign this application.
