Good advice for heavy rain

When the clouds open up and lead to heavy rain or a downpour, it's not just the streets that can get flooded. Your belongings in the basement, storage room, and shed can also be at risk. Here are some tips for protecting your belongings in these challenging times. How can you best protect your items in these areas?

The Basement: Home's Lowest Level

The basement is a natural gathering point for water, and without proper precautions, your belongings could be at risk.

Tips

  • Storage above floor level: To protect against potential flooding, place your belongings on steel shelves or plastic pallets.

  • Use waterproof containers: Small items can be safeguarded in airtight plastic containers.

  • Think strategically: Consider the placement of your most valuable and irreplaceable items. Documents, artwork, and other special items should be stored higher up or even outside the basement.

  • The shed: Out, but not out of sight. Even though the shed is outside the main building, it can still be vulnerable to flooding.

  • Elevate your belongings: Just like in the basement, make sure to store things up high using shelves or similar solutions.

  • Secure storage: Waterproof containers can protect tools and other items from water.

  • Storage in basement and storage room: Basements and storage rooms are convenient in everyday life but require thought for safe storage.

  • Choosing items: Since these areas can be damp, consider selecting items that are moisture-resistant.

  • Smart placement: Keep belongings away from direct contact with the floor, especially in exposed areas.
